Abstract: The article presents the situation of Polish female students and female scientists in historical and contemporary perspective. The author describes the changes that have occurred over the years in the context of gender segregation in education. For many years women have been excluded from academic education and some kind of jobs, now anti-discrimination law promotes equality in job and education. Despite equality policies, there are still gender differences in the choice of academic discipline. Moreover women less often participate in higher education management.
