The importance of social relations in overcoming the loneliness of the elderly

Abstract: The article focuses on the phenomenon of loneliness among old people. It points out that good relations within family, but also good relations with neighbours, which are nurtured by old people yet tend to disappear among people representing younger generations, serve as an antidote to loneliness. In the conclusion it is emphasised that in the process of education, including education of old people, special attention should be paid to developing skills for building and maintaining good social relations, which provide natural protection against the trauma of loneliness.
