Abstract: The author analyzed the problems of contemporary adult education basing on three groups of documents: the materials of the last World Conference of UNESCO in Belém; documents relating to adult education in the European Union countries; in addition, the contents of significant books written by prominent Europeans on the trends and forms of adult education were analyzed.
