The evolution of transformative learning theory

Streszczenie: Artykuł przybliża polskiemu czytelnikowi andragogiczną teorię transformatywnego uczenia się, pokazując jej przemiany w ciągu kolejnych dekad. Pierwotna formuła, stworzona przez Jacka Mezirowa, była w przeszłości i pozostaje do dziś przedmiotem żywej dyskusji i głębokiej krytyki, która zaowocowała wielokrotnymi udoskonaleniami teorii przez samego autora. Dzięki temu teoria stała się szersza i bardziej kompleksowa. Celem opracowania jest ukazanie ewolucji idei transformacji w uczeniu się i synteza obecnego stanu wiedzy w tym obszarze.

Abstract: The article introduces Polish readers to the theory of transformative learning and shows its main conversions at the turn of the years. The original Jack Mezirow’s concept has become a subject of lively discussion and deep criticism since it was developed. The comments led to numerous amendments made by the author himself, so the theory became more wider and comprehensive. The aim of the essay is to show the evolution of the idea of transformation in learning and the synthesis of the current state of knowledge in this area.
